ACCESSIBLE SCREENINGS
As a charity and community-focused organisation, our aim at Lumiere Romford is to make the love of cinema accessible to everybody.
To this end we offer the following regular screening sessions to our patrons:
1) PARENT AND BABY SCREENINGS
WHAT: These sessions are aimed at providing a friendly, relaxed and welcoming atmosphere for parents or carers to enjoy a film with us. They are strictly for parents or carers with babies under 1 year old, and no one without a baby will be admitted to these screenings. This way you can relax, feel a sense a normality and enjoy a film aimed at you rather than your baby, without fear of being judged by others if you or your baby make any noise or you just have to move about for a bit!
The volume is turned down to a comfortable and tested level, the auditorium lights are on mid-level, and subtitles are displayed on-screen. We even have spaces in the auditorium to park your prams and buggies, with seats you can use right next to them.
WHEN: two different films every Monday, the first usually starting around 10am, and then the second around 12pm-1pm (depending on the runtime of the first film that week). These are usually new releases, but we do occasionally also show classic films in these sessions too.
HOW: All Parent and Baby screenings are clearly indicated by a tag on the daily listings section on our website - look out for the two "Parent and Baby Only Screening" tags in the Monday showtimes.
2) RELAXED SCREENINGS (NEURODIVERGENT AND DEMENTIA-FRIENDLY)
WHAT: These sessions are aimed at providing a friendly, relaxed and welcoming atmosphere for those who are neurodivergent or have dementia.
The volume is turned down to a comfortable and tested level, the auditorium lights are on mid-level, and subtitles are displayed on-screen.
WHEN: two different films every Tuesday, one aimed at families and one for adults. The first usually starting around 10am, and then the second around 12pm (depending on the runtime of the first film tht week). These are usually new releases, but we do occasionally also show classic films in these sessions too.
HOW: All Relaxed screenings are clearly indicated by a tag on the daily listings section on our website - look out for the "Relaxed Adult Screening" or "Relaxed Family Screening" tags in the Tuesday showtimes.
3) DEAF OR HARD-OF-HEARING
WHAT AND WHEN: Our aim is always to have at least one weekly screening of each new release accompanied with open captioned subtitles (OCAP) displayed on screen.
In the future we hope to receive funding for glasses that display customisible subtitles to the wearer.
HOW: All subtitled screenings are clearly indicated by a tag on the daily listings section on our website - look out for the "HOH (hard of hearing)" tag in the daily showtimes.
You can view all subtitled film times in your local area on this website: https://www.yourlocalcinema.com/locations.html
