GREAT BIG GREEN WEEK AT LUMIERE CINEMA

6 - 14 June

The world around us and our community are important to us at Lumiere, and to reflect our passion, we have put together an eclectic series of films to celebrate and raise awareness for Great Big Green Week.

These films will entertain you, make you think, wow you with the nature on our doorsteps or further afield, and, most of all, we hope, inspire you to act. One small action can make a big difference to the future of our home, planet Earth.

The films are:

Hen (15)

Experience the adventures of an unusual protagonist, a chicken, who becomes an unwitting witness to human greed, smuggling and the migrant crisis.

Lost For Words (U)

This compelling documentary with an artistic heart blends science, music and storytelling to celebrate our relationship with nature. It explores the UK, meeting diverse people whose voices, framed by the four seasons, challenge our human-centred view to show us how to reconnect with the planet.

The People’s Emergency Briefing (12A)

The UK faces a growing climate and nature emergency. Yet most people haven't been fully briefed about what it means for our lives and economy. This film clearly sets out the nation's risks and positive solutions, and inspiration for us all to act.

Following the screening, there will be a Q&A session with local environmental interest groups, who will also gather beforehand. All welcome.

Whispers In The Woods - Preview screenings (U)

Celebrated wildlife photographer Vincent Munier, his father, and his son explore the Vosges forests, sharing their three-generation naturalist wisdom and fascination. Discover rare birds, lynxes, and the mythical capercaillie through their shared journey into the wild.

Time and Water (PG)

Facing the death of his country’s glaciers and the loss of his beloved grandparents, Icelandic writer Andri Snær Magnason turns his archives into a time capsule to hold what is slipping away — family, memory, time and water.

We hope these films inspire you to act. Remember, one small action can make a big difference to the future of our planet. Here are some simple ways you can start:

  • Think before you buy - commit to buying second-hand where possible.
  • Support local
  • Stop buying products that harm nature.
  • Visit your local library and borrow books
  • Swap one disposable item for a reusable one
  • Go plastic-free
  • Go meat-free one day a week
  • Switch to a fossil fuel-free bank
