Join us on Tuesday 29 April at 6.30pm for a night of VHS and physical media nostalgia!

We’re kicking things off with a screening of the fantastic documentary Kim’s Video, introduced by Dom Hicks (founder of the Nickel Cinema), and followed by a live-streamed Q&A with the filmmakers, David Redmon and Ashley Sabin.

On the night, there’ll also be a pop-up video shop where you can bring and swap your old VHS tapes or try out the Mystery Swap Box – continuing the story of the legendary Kim’s Video Store as it travels the world.

And if that’s not enough, we’ll also be celebrating the launch of our brand-new membership cards. Come say hi and have a chat with us about the scheme – we’ll be around!

More about the film:

Kim’s Video follows modern-day cinephile filmmaker, David Redmon, on a quixotic quest to track down the whereabouts of the 55,000-video collection of the now-defunct Kim’s Video, an iconic NYC video rental store which counted Jim Jarmusch, the Coen Brothers, and Quentin Tarantino among its patrons.

With the rise of DVDs, the enigmatic owner Mr. Kim closed shop in 2008 and decided to donate his collection for preservation, at which point, it seemingly vanished.

Playing with the forms and tropes of cinema, David’s bizarre and increasingly obsessive adventure is told through this playful documentary that gleefully breaks the rules, mixing film essay with detective story, experimental cinema with heist movie thrills.

An ode to the love of cinema, this film will strike a chord with anyone who has ever rented a movie!
